A new study suggests aliens may be hiding on Uranus’ moon Miranda, just 1.7 billion miles (2.74 billion km) from Earth, the Daily Mail writes. On the scale of the universe, this isn’t that far off.

Scientists at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory have found evidence of a potentially habitable ocean beneath Miranda’s surface. “Finding evidence of an ocean inside a small object like Miranda is incredibly surprising,” said study co-author Tom Nordheim.
“It helps develop the story that some of these moons of Uranus could be really interesting, that there could be multiple ocean worlds around one of the most distant planets in our solar system, which is both exciting and strange,” he added. Based on the findings, the researchers are calling for a new mission to Uranus: “We are excited about the possibilities and look forward to returning to further study Uranus and its potential ocean moons,” added Nordheim.
The only spacecraft to visit Uranus was NASA’s Voyager 2 in 1986, and this isn’t the first time scientists have called for a new mission. In 2022, a report by the National Academy of Sciences called for a mission to Uranus. He calls Uranus “one of the most intriguing objects in the solar system” and says studying it “will improve our understanding of ice giants as a whole.”
The team said the spacecraft should study the system for several years, orbiting the ice giant and sending a probe into its atmosphere.
Liquid water was previously found on Mars for the first time. Read more about the opening here.
