Andrew Garfield Denies Spider-Man Return Rumors With a Hard and “Unequivocally No”

It seems like what fans are hoping to see Andrea Garfield returns to the MCU for Avengers: Judgment Day you will be disappointed. The actor gave a very clear and very colorful answer when asked if he would return as Spider-Man in the next Marvel epic.

When asked point-blank in a new GQ fan Q&A whether he would reprise his role, Garfield didn’t hesitate:

“No, unequivocally fucking no.”

Well, this is as definitive as you can imagine. It’s so absurd to me that “entertainment journalists” keep asking him this! Even if he was, it’s not like I can tell him! It must be so annoying for him.

Of course, fans have already heard Garfield give a hard “no.” He unequivocally denied appearing Spider-Man: No Way Home and we all know how that ended.

Alongside the actor’s surprise return Tobey Maguire AND Tom Holland in 2021 the multiverse crossover has become one of the biggest moments in superhero movie history, so it’s understandable that audiences take its new denial with a grain of salt. But don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t show up! There’s a really good chance he won’t appear in the movie.

However, Garfield made it clear that if he were to suit up again, it would have to be under very unusual circumstances. Earlier this year, he said,

“I think it would have to be very strange. I think I’d like to do something very strange. Something very unique and unusual and surprising, kind of like the creative freedom they have with the animated Spider-Verse films.”

And he reinforced this sentiment recently, adding:

“I really love the Spider-Verse movies [writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller]. I just say it.”

So while Garfield’s days as Spider-Man in the MCU may be over, it seems his affection for the character and the creative narrative that came with it hasn’t gone anywhere.

Even without him, Avengers: Judgment Day It’s shaping up to be huge with a huge cast and more announcements on the way.

Avengers: Judgment Day hits theaters on December 18, 2026, and while Garfield may not return as Spider-Man, the multiverse still leaves plenty of room for surprises.
