Famous soul and gospel singer and Whitney Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, passed away at the age of 91. The vocalist was a two-time Grammy Award winner.

Cissy, who sang backup for Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley, died this morning at her home in New Jersey, her family said. Surrounded by her family, Houston was receiving hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease.
“Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness. We have lost the head of our family,” Pat Houston said in a statement. “Sissy’s mother was a strong and extraordinary figure in our lives. A woman of deep faith and belief who cared deeply about family, service and community.”
Let’s remember that his daughter Whitney Houston passed away on February 11, 2012. The singer’s causes of death were drowning, atherosclerotic heart disease and drug abuse. The death was described as an “accident” and investigators “do not suspect injuries or violence.”
