SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 actor loses faith in Robert Downey Jr.’s long-delayed sequel

Fans of Robert Downey Jr.’S Sherlock Holmes movies have been hoping for more than a decade that a third film would finally hit the big screen. Unfortunately, one of the franchise’s stars isn’t so sure that will ever happen.

Eddie Marsanwho plays Inspector Lestrade in the series, recently shared a disheartening update while promoting his new film All the devils are here. In an interview with ScreenRant, Marsan admitted that after years of hearing rumors and promises about it Sherlock Holmes 3he doubts the project will ever materialize.

“Every year I hear they will, they will, they will and it never happens,” Marsan said. “I don’t know. I don’t know if it will ever happen.”

This isn’t the first time the long-awaited sequel has come close to taking off. Susan Downeywho produced them both Sherlock Holmes (2009) e Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), revealed in a past interview that the team was on the verge of moving forward with the third film.

“It just didn’t work out in terms of timing, because we couldn’t get it in sooner Judah [Law] it wouldn’t have been available,” he explained, adding that production would continue until the COVID-19 pandemic stopped everything.

Susan also teased that the film had a new setting in mind. According to her, Sherlock Holmes 3 it has “always been set in America”.

The first two films, directed by Guy Ritchiewere huge hits, combining action, mystery, and Downey Jr.’s charismatic portrayal of the World’s Greatest Detective. But more than 13 years later A game of shadowsthe silence surrounding the sequel has left fans frustrated.

Now, with Downey Jr. officially locked into the Marvel machine for Avengers: Judgment Day in 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, his schedule looks full and the future of Sherlock Holmes 3 seems more uncertain than ever.

For now, fans can only keep their fingers crossed that Holmes and Watson return to the big screen one last time. But if Marsan’s doubts are any indication, the case of Sherlock Holmes 3 it may be a mystery that will never be solved.
