GAME OF THRONES Fans React to Short Episode Length of THE KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS: “30 Minutes? Good God”

HBO is coming game of Thrones universe series A knight of the seven kingdoms It is reportedly rolling out six long-running, approximately 30-minute-long episodes game of Thrones fans aren’t exactly thrilled about it.

According to leaked reports, the entire first season will have a total of around three hours of screen time. This is a huge difference compared to game of Throneswhich aired 10-hour episodes per season, and also from House of the Dragonwith an average of eight to ten episodes of almost an hour each.

Fans online didn’t hold back their disappointment. One fan wrote: “30 minute episodes for a Game of Thrones TV show? Good lord.” Another chimed in: “I have more than 20 episodes of television seasons left.”

Some question the strategy behind the shorter runtime altogether. “So 3 hours total? Make it into a movie, oh my god,” one viewer suggested, while another called the decision “modern day engagement farming.”

They continued, “At only 3 hours total, this could be a movie. Most people won’t sign up to HBO Max for a movie, but many will for the same material delivered over 6 weeks.”

Personally I have no problem! The show looks like a lot of fun, and as long as the creative team can adequately tell the story they want to tell, and in the end the result is great, that’s all that matters.

If the writing, acting, and world-building are strong, we could have a concise yet powerful story in the Seven Kingdoms.

Set approximately a century before the events of game of Thrones, A knight of the seven kingdoms adapts the Dunk and Egg stories by George R.R. Martin. The series is the protagonist Peter Claffey as the valiant Ser Duncan the Tall Dexter Sol Ansell as his young squire Egg, the future Aegon V Targaryen.

Despite fan concerns, Martin has already given the show his enthusiastic stamp of approval, calling it “as faithful an adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for.”

If writing, acting and world-building are the right path House of the DragonIf we did that, we could have a concise but powerful story in the Seven Kingdoms.

A knight of the seven kingdoms will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on January 18, 2026.
