South Africa has been hit by abnormal snowfall. The raging elements have paralysed traffic on roads and left locals stranded in their cars. People have been reported to have had to wait days for help
According to SABC News, the snowdrifts are reaching a height of one metre. Snow fell in the south and south-west of the country. The Johannesburg-Durban highway and some border crossings were closed due to the bad weather. Electricity networks and water pipes were also down in some areas.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government said drivers were provided with warm blankets and water. Humanitarian organisations were providing support to anyone stranded in the snow, but the exact number of people needing assistance was not known.
Meanwhile, locals have also found the cold weather to their advantage. Many are playing snowballs and building snowmen. Others are heading outside to enjoy the beauty of nature. On social networks, you can already find plenty of footage of locals having fun.
We have previously mentioned the superstitions regarding snow that we still believe in today.
