GALAXY QUEST Will Finally Get a 4K Blu-ray Release with Limited Edition Steelbook Option

The classic 1999 sci-fi comedy Galactic Research will finally be released on 4K Blu-ray, as this year marks the film’s 25th anniversary.

There are two editions of Galaxy Quest on 4K UHD Blu-ray/Digital that are currently available for pre-order today on Amazon. There is a standard edition and a limited edition Steelbook with new cover art.

Both of these editions have a release date set for December 3. Here are the features:

  • NEW 4K FILM RESTORATION

  • DOLBY ATMOS AUDIO TRACK

  • NEW: Filmmaker Focus program with director Dean Parisot

  • Plus hours of traditional special content

  • Optional English SDH subtitles for main movie

This is one of my all-time favorite comedies and it would be a great experience to see it again on the big screen.

The sci-fi comedy follows the cast of a once-popular television series, also called Galactic Researchwhose careers have faded into obscurity. The actors, led by the arrogant yet charming Jason Nesmith (Trainer), who played the show’s captain, attended fan conventions to earn a living.

Unbeknownst to them, an alien race called the Thermians has mistaken their show for real historical documents. The Thermians enlist the cast to help them save their race from the evil warlord Sarris, believing the actors to be the intergalactic heroes they played on television.

When the actors find themselves aboard a real spaceship modeled after the fictional one, they must quickly adapt to the realities of space combat, alien diplomacy, and life-or-death stakes.

Initially overwhelmed and out of their depth, they eventually rise to the occasion, using their acting expertise and teamwork to defeat Sarris and protect the Termians.

The cast of the film also includes Sigourney Weaver as Gwen DeMarco / Lieutenant Tawny Madison; Alan Rickman as Alexander Dane / Doctor Lazarus; Tony Shalhoub as Fred Kwan / Technical Sergeant Chen; My Friend Sam Rockwell as Guy Fleegman; by Daryl Mitchell as Tommy Webber / Lieutenant Laredo; and Enrico Colantoni like Mathesar.
