Nicole Kidman’s mother, Janelle Anne Kidman, has died at the age of 85, according to People.

The actress learned about the tragedy at the Venice Film Festival and then rushed home. Before leaving, she left a message that was later read to the audience by director Halina Rein. Nicole should have won an award for her role in Bad Girl.
“I’m shocked and I need to go home to my family, but this award is for him. He shaped me, guided me, and created me. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to say his name,” Kidman said in a statement.
The winners of the 81st International Film Festival were announced last night in Venice. Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door,” starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, won the night’s best film. See the full list here.
