Roman Polanski will be back in court in 2025

Fifty-one years after the disputed facts, Roman Polanski will have to answer to justice. In August 2025 he will appear in a California court on charges of “ rape of a minor », dating back to 1973, the lawyer of the alleged victim announced on Tuesday 12 March.

Just in 2017 the complainant made her accusations public, and then filed a complaint in June 2023. Through her lawyer, the 90-year-old director “he firmly contested all allegations of rape”.

For a time nicknamed “Robin” and introduced as Jane Doe in her complaint, the complainant, whose age is not known, wishes to remain anonymous. Today she is defended by Gloria Allredfigure of the #MeToo movement and representative of the victims of producer Harvey Weinstein, sentenced several times to 23 and 16 years in prison for rape.

Little chance that Roman Polanski will be present at the trial

According to the complaint consulted by theFrench media agencyRoman Polanski allegedly took the young teenager to dinner at a Los Angeles restaurant one evening in 1973. He made her drink tequila and then took her home before raping her.

“She told him ‘please don’t do that'”his lawyer told the press. “ She claims he refused her requests. She further alleges that defendant Polanski removed plaintiff’s clothing and then sexually assaulted her, causing her immense physical and emotional pain and suffering. »

The Polish-French director fled American justice in 1977 following a conviction in another case in which he was also accused of rape of a minor. After forty-two days in prison, was released briefly, then hurriedly fled to Paris. Since then he has managed to evade any extradition request. There is therefore little chance that the director will be accused of rape and sexual assault about ten women in total be present during the process.
