Produced by HBO and Daniel Radcliffe, the documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived pays homage to Daniel Radcliffe’s lookalike, completely paralyzed following an accident on the set of Deathly Hallows.

“The Boy Who Lived” it’s not necessarily what we think about. In 2010, stunt prodigy David Holmes suffered a serious accident on the set of Deathly Hallows. The one who has surpassed Daniel Radcliffe for 11 years broken neck, resulting in total paralysis of his body and the sudden end of his film career. Today he is the hero of David Holmes: The Boy Who Liveda documentary that traces his life story.

A child prodigy with a tragic destiny

The documentary explores the life of the British stuntman, going back to his childhood. The latter was already recognized for his skills as a prodigy gymnast. Enriched with numerous archive images and unpublished testimonies, the film retraces the journey of the man who was chosen as Daniel Radcliffe’s replacement just 11 years.

The film will also focus at length on the terrible stunt that cost the young man his mobility. The accident occurred in January 2009 at Warner Bros studios during pre-production ofHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 1. As you repeated a flying scene, the stuntman was pulled back by a high-tensile cable who threw him at full speed against a wall, breaking his neck.

Directed by Dan Hartley, the documentary is produced by Daniel Radcliffe. The star ofHarry Potter he also appears on the screen, where he narrates his relationship that quickly became brotherly with David Holmes.

Their friendship didn’t end with the end of the saga Harry Potter. Together, the two comedians launched the podcast “Cunning Stuns »in which they give a voice to professionals, campaigning through this project to a better recognition of their profession. Daniel Radcliffe specifically asked an Oscar dedicated to stuntmen.

Where and when does it come out?

Opening a more than welcome window onto a difficult and dangerous profession, this beautiful tribute to David Holmes will be released on November 15th on Max, the streaming platform HBO.
