The main thing is that the team fits: what fashion trends were predicted by Soviet films.

Why do they love Soviet cinema? For thoughtful and such domestic heroes? For jokes that have not lost their relevance until now? Or heartbreaking stories? Movies from that era can easily take you back and make you feel nostalgic. There seems to be no such person in our country who has not heard of Shurik and Operation “Y” and does not know that it has nothing to do with rabbits.

Now these legendary films are an encyclopedia of the Soviet past, on whose “pages” you can learn almost everything. From the films of Eldar Ryazanov and Leonid Gaidai, we, the representatives of the younger generation, learn that not only decent people go to the bakery by taxi, but also that shoes make women. Yes, cinema has also had a strong influence on fashion. During the Iron Curtain period, the main fashion influencers of our mothers and grandmothers were the heroines of their favorite movies.

Do you still think that fashion is not in the USSR? We are here to prove otherwise. And as an argument we will use images from legendary Soviet films, which very accurately reflect modern trends.

headbands

If you’ve seen the movie “The Diamond Arm”, you probably remember a very ugly scene where actress Svetlana Svetlichnaya takes off her pale pink A-line jacket and continues to dance in her underwear. Is it provocative? Definitely! But it’s not about that now. In addition to the bright green set, the image of the actress is now complemented by a white headband, which all fashion bloggers and influencers have. For example, last year Bella Hadid’s fashion accessory walked.

Pencil skirt

Not only the costume designers, but also the actress of the role worked on the creation of the image of Mymra from the movie “Office Romance”. Meanwhile, it was Alisa Freindlich who found the iconic brown suit with a skirt that became the epitome of how not to dress. Who would have thought, 46 years after the movie’s release, that Miuccia Prada would feature jackets and pencil skirts made from very similar dense wool in her Miu Miu collection?

pea

Peas are one of the trends of this season. We have seen this edition in the latest collections of Etro, Marni, Lanvin, Nina Ricci, Alaïa and many more brands. Of course, the polka dot pattern is far from new, in the last century Marlene Dietrich, Sophia Loren, Marina Vladi and, of course, Katerina from the movie Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears wore polka dots. The latter, meanwhile, appeared on the screen in a gray three-piece suit and a black blouse with white polka dots. It seems more than relevant.

colored tights

After the release of the film “Prisoner of the Caucasus” Natalya Varley became a real icon of style, the images of which were copied by all “athletes, Komsomol members and just beautiful people”. The grandmother of the author of this material is no exception. But back to the trends. In one scene of the painting, the actress appears in bright blue tights that are popular again in 2023. Don’t believe? Then we recommend checking out the fashion shows of Ferragamo, Alaïa, Anna Sui, Burberry and Giambattista Valli.

leather gloves

Recently, designers and stylists have been adding a bright accent to their runway looks in the form of gloves. However, this approach is far from innovative. Shurik’s wife in the movie “Ivan Vasilyevich Changes His Profession” appeared on the screen in 1973 in a white suit, belt and bright red gloves.

Olympic

Another trend of the season that emerged without the efforts of Bella Hadid and Kendrick Lamar is my dad’s country sweatshirt. However, Soviet films were several decades ahead of Western influencers. As a weighty argument, we cite the image of Katya Kuznetsova from the movie “Courier”.

Thick sole boots

“Good boots, you should get them,” said Verochka from the movie “Office Romance”. We confirm that the bots are really good and have not lost their relevance for half a century. On the contrary, platform shoes are one of the main trends of recent seasons. This is evidenced by the latest collections from Versace, Adeam, Akris, Vivienne Westwood and even Benetton.
