A heartbroken dog was found was rolled up in the rubble of his home in Ukraine this morning after his owners were killed in a brutal Russian missile attack.
The footage is said to speak to the grief many people across the country are experiencing today, with the dog’s owners among at least nine people killed in airstrikes by Vladimir Putin’s forces.
Pictures show the puppy, named Elsa, curled up and whimpering on a cloth-covered bed in the ruins of her family’s home, which was completely destroyed by the previous day’s “revenge” strikes.
Three men and two women were killed in the Lviv region after a rocket hit a residential area – the first deaths in the far western city in many months from Ukraine’s ongoing invasion.
There, in a village in the Zolochevsky district, the devastated dog was discovered by the local residents, apparently grieving the loss of his people.

The dog was lying on a large pile of rubble, the building behind it was completely blown up by the Russian missile.
Debris, including rocks and debris, surrounds the bedding on which it rests. With its head and ears hanging and its tail tucked in, the pup is clearly distraught.
A second poignant shot of the scene shows a young girl leaning forward to guide the frightened animal to safety.
During the touching moment, she carefully wraps a cloth around the dog, which is believed to have injured its paw.
A heart-wrenching video then shows Elsa stumbling through the ruined house, frantically sniffing the debris you suspect, looking for signs of the owners.
Bystanders who see the puppy do their best to comfort them by petting them and searching the area.
The footage shows the total destruction of the house, with almost nothing left of the home of the deceased family.

Bent metal and broken wooden beams show that the building’s structure gave way during the blast and much of it collapsed.
One of the walls of the building has completely collapsed and looking through the building it is clear that other walls are not stable at all. In fact, it no longer looks like a building at all, but like an abandoned construction site.
The fate of the little four-legged friend was not immediately clear, although the clip, which shows several people standing around her, and the outpouring of mourning for her among Ukrainians suggests she will be cared for.
Many took to Twitter to share the photo of the dog curled up in the rubble, citing his family’s death as one of many examples of Russian atrocities committed in Ukraine since Putin launched his invasion in February 2022 has.
As people slept last night, Russia fired 81 missiles at targets across Ukraine, hitting 10 of the country’s 27 regions.
While the missiles mainly targeted energy infrastructure, civilian places such as the pet’s home were also hit.

Moscow said the attacks were in response to a border attack earlier this month, citing allegations that Ukrainian nationalists invaded the southern Bryansk region and killed two civilians, which Kiev dismissed as a Kremlin provocation.
Ukraine said it shot down nearly half of the missiles fired by Russia in at least 10 regions as fighting raged in Bakhmut’s east.
The dog’s owners were among the first civilian casualties in a long time. They were among five dead after a rocket hit a residential area, Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said.
Three buildings were destroyed by fire after the strike and rescuers dug through the rubble in search of other possible victims.
Footage from the area, about 700 kilometers from a military battlefield in eastern Ukraine, showed a flattened house and badly damaged buildings nearby.
“At the moment it is known that four people have died. That’s four adults. Two men and two women,” Kozytski wrote on Telegram Messenger, saying a rocket hit her home in the Zolochiv district west of the city of Lviv. A fifth death was later confirmed.
The strikes also killed three people in Kharkiv, which left Ukraine’s second-largest city – in the northeast – without electricity, water or heating.
A ninth man, aged 34, was killed in the eastern city of Dnipropetrovsk, local authorities said.
“The enemy launched 81 rockets to intimidate Ukrainians again and return to their miserable tactics,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
