Ukraine claims for the first time since Putin’s invasion that more than a THOUSAND Russian troops were killed on the battlefield in one day – with 25 tanks destroyed in two days

According to Ukraine, more than 1,000 Russian soldiers have died on the battlefield in the past 24 hours.

Kiev updated the number of Russian military deaths for yesterday to 1,030, bringing the total to 133,190 since the war began in February last year.

It would be the first time since the initial invasion that Putin’s forces would inflict such a deadly and disastrous blow in a single day.

Fierce fighting around Bakhmut near the Donbass region is believed to have contributed to the rise in casualties, with both Kiev and Moscow escalating their campaigns.

The Ukrainian military also said 25 Russian tanks had been destroyed in the past two days, bringing the total to 3,245 since February last year.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces released the latest figures on social media, along with a video that appears to show a Russian tank being destroyed by Ukraine’s 92nd Mechanized Brigade.

The video also appeared to show the destroyed tank catching fire.

Another released video shows a group of Ukrainian soldiers firing on Russian troops.

The group, said to be from the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade, used an array of Bulgarian RTB-7MA thermobaric shells – tank shells – to fire across the battlefield.

Russia also claimed to have suffered 6,500 Ukrainian casualties in January.

It is not possible to verify the numbers reported by Ukraine or Russia. Enemy casualty figures from both sides are generally considered unreliable, with neither side providing explicit details of recent battles.

Almost a year has passed since the beginning of the war. After Ukraine’s relatively unexpected success over the past 12 months, Moscow is now trying to regain the initiative as brutal fighting rages in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Donbass.

Kiev is awaiting the arrival of Western tanks and the subsequent training of its personnel to launch a counteroffensive later this spring.

After Russia failed to capture the Ukrainian capital last year and lost ground in the second half of 2022, Moscow is now making full use of hundreds of thousands of troops it has called up in its first mobilization since World War II.

Kiev and the West say Russia has sent troops and mercenaries into eastern Ukraine in recent weeks, hoping to make new gains later this month on the first anniversary of its full-scale invasion.

Russia posted its first profit in six months in recent weeks. But progress is still incremental, and Moscow, despite thousands of deaths, still failed to capture a single major population center during its winter campaign.

For months, fighting has been concentrated in Ukrainian-held Bakhmut in eastern Donetsk province, a city with a pre-war population of about 75,000. Russia has made significant progress encircling both north and south, but Kyiv says its garrison is holding stand.

Moscow also launched an attack further south against Vuhledar, a Ukrainian-held bastion on high ground at the strategic junction of the eastern and southern front lines.
