The end of the red carpet era: why even Jenna Ortega and Millie Alcock couldn’t save the Golden Globes 2023

The end of the red carpet era: why even Jenna Ortega and Millie Alcock couldn’t save the Golden Globes 2023

While we mentally “eat” their New Year’s salad and try to get into working mode, Hollywood stars are already conquering the first red carpet of 2023 with might and substance. The 80th Golden Globe Awards were held tonight at The Beverly Hilton.

In its 80-year history, the red carpet of movie awards has seen many top actors, designer dresses from legendary designers, and iconic moments.

In the mid-20th century, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marilyn Monroe shone at the Golden Globes. Later they were replaced by Cher, Barbra Streisand and Meryl Streep. Then came the era of Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. Images of these movie stars have gone down in history forever, securing the status of style icons.

Has anyone managed to join the ranks of the best dressed honorary degree this year? No (sadly and ah) instead of yes! It seems that the golden age of the red carpet has sunk into oblivion, leaving us only shaky memories of how it used to be. There were disastrously few A-list stars at the Jubilee (!) Golden Globes, and the ones who made it didn’t really please us.

Of course, we don’t count Eddie Redmayne in a dark brown Valentino suit with a floral accent on the collar, Anya Taylor-Joy in a rich yellow Christian Dior set, Letitia Wright in Prada, and Jessica Chastain in a translucent Oscar de la . Rhinestone embroidered dress for rent. . But all these exits are just a drop in a sea of despair and sadness (sorry for being too dramatic).

Even Wednesday Addams, aka Jenna Ortega, whose appearance everyone was so anxiously awaiting, failed to create that wow effect. Yes, she took to the red carpet in a dress from the last collection of Gucci Twinsburg, but the style was much inferior to the one at the Alessandro Michele show.

But his counterpart on the Percy Hynes White TV show was pleasantly surprised. The actor attended the awards in an all-black look consisting of a cape jacket, slim turtleneck and flared trousers.

Rainiers Targaryen (aka Emma D’Arcy and Millie Alcock) was also able to please us a bit. The former opted for a free-cut men’s suit and added cobalt-colored gloves to it (a separate homage to the ring, by the way), but the latter decided to bet on a Givenchy dress with an impressive neckline.

This is where all the goodness ends, and a whole galaxy of actors in classic tuxedo butterflies and bustier dress actresses get into the “game”.

And Margot Robbie accompanies them in good old Chanel (and we were so hoping that they “and lived happily ever after” with Bottega Veneta).

For almost a year, we’ve been witnessing a sad picture that makes it clear that big rewards are getting more and more boring. At the same Oscars, there are no more hosts, star guests in the hall are not eating pizza and taking crazy selfies, and there are less and less sensational appearances on the red carpet. Is the golden age over? Only time can answer this rhetorical question. And we can only wait and observe what happens.
