Bieber, 28, announced his diagnosis on Friday and said he was paralyzed on the right side of his face, unable to blink, smile or move one nostril to this side. He has since suspended the dates of his world tour.
“It will be normal, we just don’t know when or how long it will take,” he said in a video posted on Instagram.
“But I hope it goes well. And I trust in God that it all happened for a reason and… Now I’m not sure what happened, but in the meantime I’ll rest”.
Dr. Josh Rosenberg, MD, a facial plastic surgeon at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, told DailyMail.com that patients have a good idea of how much they improve in three to six months.
According to the National Rare Diseases Organization, about five out of 100,000 people in the United States develop Ramsay Hunt syndrome each year.
Dr. Nina Lu, a facial paralysis specialist at the University of Washington, explained that it could take months for the singer to recover. However, she added that the stroke is unlikely to be permanent, and that normally about seven in 10 patients recover completely.
However, both doctors noted that Bieber’s recovery could take several weeks due to his young age.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs when the virus, which causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults, stays in the cells for years, reactivating and inflaming the facial nerves.
It wasn’t clear what caused the flare-up, but stress, a weakened immune system, and other underlying medical problems were suggested as possible causes.
The situation threatens to jeopardize the final leg of the US leg of the Justice World Tour, which has been postponed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as dates in Europe and South America.

“I would,” Rosenberg told DailyMail.com. [Justin] a few months, but people may really surprise you, especially young people.
“Young was diagnosed early and treated quickly, which bodes well.”
He added: “Three to six months – maybe up to a year – [patients] they will have an idea of how much exercise they are getting.
‘Some patients regain full range of motion, but some get very little and others [uncontrolled movement]† That’s when someone starts moving their mouth and closing their eyes too. Muscles that shouldn’t contract also contract.’
“Recovery times for this disease can vary.
“Sometimes it goes very fast – for weeks – and sometimes it can really take months.”
He warned that where facial muscles, such as the eyelids, can contract uncontrollably, patients sometimes develop synkinensis as a result of the condition.
“Temporary” hearing loss and changes in voicemail were also common, he added.
When asked if a patient would recover completely, he replied, “Normal or near-normal 70 percent. The other 30 percent have partial synkinesis.
Bieber announced the diagnosis to fans in a video on Friday, after suspending several tour dates on Tuesday.
In the clip, he said that the right side of his face was paralyzed and he could no longer smile, blink, or move his nostril.
It was unclear when the singer first developed the condition, but it is likely she will be diagnosed soon.
She is currently taking antiviral medications and doing facial exercises to treat the condition.
On Saturday, his wife, Hailey, 25, expressed his support for the singer by writing on her Instagram story next to a photo of Bieber: “I love you baby.”
The singer began his tour on February 18, 2022, after delaying his tour for two years due to the outbreak of the virus.
It would perform at its final venues in the United States – with its final show in Inglewood, California – before flying to Europe for the second leg of the tour this month.
It won’t end with a performance in Krakow, Poland, until March next year.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is caused by inflammation of the nerve that controls facial expressions after the virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults has been reactivated.
This nerve passes through a bony “tunnel” between the brain and the face that restricts blood flow to the inflamed nerve, leading to facial paralysis.

The 25-year-old model captioned “I love you baby” on her Instagram story while reposting a video that 28-year-old Justin uploaded to her Instagram page, explaining her diagnosis.
Symptoms include facial paralysis, blistering, and pain in the face and ears.
Patients may also experience hearing changes such as loud noises in one ear than the other, or tinnitus – ringing in the ears – and even deafness.
Infection treatment usually involves taking antiviral drugs or steroids.
Although physical therapy is not usually recommended, it can also be used with muscles.
If the problems persist for up to six months, botox treatments may be recommended, and if the patient does not improve, surgery for a year may be recommended.
