Walt Disney Studios has officially passed $4 billion in 2022, making it the No. 1 studio in the race for this year’s global box office. It happens to be the sequel by James Cameron of 20th Century Studios Avatar: The Way of Water is about half a billion worldwide.
The current global number as of Monday is $4.049 billion for Disney, broken down into $1.7 billion domestically and $2.3 billion internationally, coming from major releases Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness ($955 million worldwide), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (previously $789 million), Thor: Love and Thunder ($761 million) and Avatar: The Way of Water (previously $497 million).

Disney led the 2021 global studio rankings, followed by Sony and Universal. In August, Universal became the first studio since 2019 to break $3 billion.
This is the eighth year that Disney has reached the $4 billion mark, surpassing last year’s total of $2.9 billion.
Avatar: The Way of Water looks to top the holiday box office this weekend with a 4-day celebration of between $90 and $95 million. The picture plays out until January and possibly February when Disney delivers the next very enjoyable tentpole to Marvel Studios Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which opened on February 17.
