After many offers from several major Hollywood directors, Minaries director Lee Isaac Chung is in the first talks to face the imminent Tornado Continuation, Twistersfor Amblin and Universal. Mark L. Smith (The avenger) wrote the screenplay, with Frank Marshall producing under his Kennedy/Marshall banner.
We previously reported that Amblin’s Steven Spielberg he himself went nuts over the script, and his enthusiasm provided the impetus for the fast-paced film. Sources say the hope is to bring in the original movie star Elena Caccia back, with a drama centered on his daughter with the character played by the late actor Bill Paxton. She got the storm chasing bug her parents had.
Insiders add that no one is in talks to star as the goal is to close the deal from Chung, who is still in talks.
Best known for his Academy Award-nominated work in the drama A24 Minaries, this project marks Chung’s first venture into the big-budget tentpole genre. He grew up on a farm in rural Arkansas and has his fair share of experience sheltering in storm cellars when a tornado would hit the mainland. This personal connection impressed executives, and after one last person last week, Chung became the top pick to get the job.
