‘Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment’: Tom Cruise shares behind-the-scenes look at ‘most dangerous’ scene

Tom Cruise has no limits, and if he does, the next two ‘Mission Impossible’ films seem like his perfect excuse to go further. The actor, known for doing without doubles and creating extremely risky scenes, shared a video on his Twitter profile in which he shows the behind the scenes of the complicated stunt that left us speechless in the trailer for ‘Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment ‘ – Part 1’, where we see how Ethan Hunt drives his motorcycle at full speed and jumps off a cliff.

‘Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment’: Tom Cruise shares behind-the-scenes look at ‘most dangerous’ scene

“This is by far the most dangerous thing we’ve ever tried to do.”says the actor in the video, which he posted along with the lyrics: “What a thrill to share what we have worked on”. Anyone would be scared to death at the idea of jumping off a ravine on a motorcycle (useless without a helmet) and then ending up opening a parachute within a time limit, but not everyone is Tom Cruise, who instead says: “I’ve wanted to do this since I was a kid”. His motto? “Don’t Be Careful, Be Confident”.

The video label indicates that the images were recorded in 2020 in the city of Hellesylt in western Norway. Cruise says they’ve been working on it for years. And it’s definitely not a single attempt — there have been hundreds of tests. The actor practiced jumping thirty times a day and in total he did more than 13,000 motocross jumps and parachuted 500 times.

In the video you can see a whole team working to ensure that conditions are optimal and nothing can go wrong. “The only thing you have to avoid when pulling a stunt like this is serious injury or death”says the base jumping coach, who praises the actor’s ability to digest information instantly. “She’s the most attentive person I’ve ever met in my life”.

all for the movie

Technical difficulties are added to the complications of the stunts. After all, it’s not an experiment: you have to record the scene and everything has to be ready. Director and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie notices this “doing the stunt is one of the technical challenge, the other is to put the camera in a place where you can see what Tom is doing [Cruise]. Finding the right goal, platform, medium. Two years ago, the cameras that will allow us to do what we’re trying to do today didn’t exist.. Among the aspects to take into consideration there is also the weather: “We want there to be clouds, but not fog”, point. Cruise sums it up nicely: “If we do everything but we don’t do it right, what’s the use?”.

One thing is clear and that is, if the next ‘Mission Impossible’ films produce even half the tension and adrenaline rush of watching this stunt being pulled, they will not leave anyone indifferent. As the actor says in the video, “it all depends on one thing: the public”.

* ‘Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment – Part 1’ will arrive in our country on July 14, 2023. Its sequel, ‘Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment – Part 2’ is expected to premiere on June 28, 2024.
