‘Indiana Jones 5’: Opening Sequence Will Bring Harrison Ford Back From First Movie With Rejuvenating Tech

Director James Mangold is clear that he wants the first scene of “Indiana Jones 5” to be unforgettable. To do this, it occurred to him to start the film with a leap into the past, where Thanks to rejuvenating technology, actor Harrison Ford will play the Indiana Jones of forty years ago. The scene takes place in the year 1944 in a Nazi-infested castle, taking us back to the unforgettable ‘Indiana Jones Quest for the Lost Ark’.

“My hope is that even if it’s talked about from a technology standpoint, you’ll look at it and go, ‘Oh my God, they found some old footage. This was shot 40 years ago.'”, producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy tells Empire. The big goal is that viewers can once again feel connected to the ‘Indiana Jones’ saga. “We’re taking you on an adventure, something Indy is looking for, and you get that feeling right away: “I’m in an Indiana Jones Movie””.

For the director, the idea is to use the ellipsis as a narrative purpose. After this initial scene, which will transport the viewers to what was the first film of the saga, there will be a sudden passage of time: “And then we fall and you find yourself in 1969”Mangold explains in the same medium. “So that audiences don’t experience the transition between the 1940s and 1960s as an intellectual conception, but rather experience the literal reckless spirit of those early days…and then the beginning of now”.

The inspiration comes from the director’s desire to imitate the powerful beginnings of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg in the opening scenes of their films, as well as from “give the audience an adrenaline rush”says the director.
