Academy Award nominated actress Kristen Stewart (Dusk, Spencer) has signed on to make his directorial debut with the adaptation of The chronology of waterbased on the memoir of Lydia Yuknavitch. Imogene Poots (The father, External range) will star in the film and Stewart will adapt the screenplay with Andy Mingo.
The novel is a lyrical journey through a life saved by art. A young woman finds her voice through the written word and her salvation as a swimmer, eventually becoming a triumphant teacher, mother, and singular modern writer. A survivor’s story, a sexually abrasive and honest coming of age, the film is a physical memory scrub of Lidia Yuknavitch’s inner life.
Stewart said of the project:
“Lydia’s memoir radically honors bodily experience. Making that experience physical feels vital to me and what that urge means…is that it absolutely has to be a movie. This project has been underway for five years with the help of Scott Free, who I couldn’t be more privileged to have as a partner and friend. Imogen Poots will carry this film and the staggering weight of Lidia’s life. She can keep it. I am more than lucky to have her.
Stewart has previously directed the short Come and swim, through the production company Scott Free, and are also collaborating with her on this film. Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss are producing alongside Mingo. Scott Free’s Rebecca Feuer will executive produce the film.
Sounds like an interesting project. Can’t wait to check it out. We’ll let you know more as the film develops.
