I got to see the latest from Marvel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, on opening night last week, and made me feel all the emotions from loss and sadness to joy and triumph. It was such a beautiful film and the perfect tribute to the late Chadwick Bosemanour black panther forever.

Many of the film’s cast members were in mourning during the making of this film, as Boseman was a close friend of theirs. But the loss of T’Challa wasn’t the only reason fans were sad as they watched. Before we dive in, I’ll make sure you know there are spoilers to come.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Angela Bassetto, who plays Queen Ramonda of Wakanda in the films, sat down to talk about her character’s arc in the sequel. First, she explained what a collaboration it is to work with the director Ryan Cooglersaid:

“He’s extremely clear about the story and what he’s doing, but also how he relates to the cast and crew. He is so cooperative. He’s so shy. That imposter syndrome we’re having or something, he’s gonna say it out loud. “I don’t know these words. Are you okay with them?’ And he really invites you to have your say, to be a part of it, which is wonderful. He doesn’t put you in a straitjacket.

However, Bassett revealed that the decision to kill Queen Ramonda wasn’t a plot point she immediately agreed with. She explained:

“I objected. Yeah, I was like, ‘Ryan, what are you doing? How come? You will regret the day! You will regret the passing of [Ramonda]. People will be so upset.’”

Then Coogler, known for his cold demeanor, explained himself.

“He was like, ‘Angela, I know, I know, but look, dying isn’t really dying in this world. It doesn’t really have to mean that.’”

She was assured of her choice after thinking back on how many characters came back to life Avengers: Finale, reversing Thanos’ catastrophic snap of the Infinity Gauntlet. It wasn’t unthinkable, he reasoned, that he might come back one day, saying, “All kinds of crazy things happen.”

While Ramonda is gone, seemingly forever, she hasn’t been forgotten. Bassett brought a humble poise and fire to the character we won’t soon forget. May she rest in power.
