A real war of fairy tales unfolded in Russian film distribution – the fantasy film “Gorynych” starring Alexander Petrov surpassed another high-profile project “Alice in Wonderland” in terms of box office revenues.
According to UAIS, in the first weekend “Gorynych” earned more than 338 million rubles, and the total amount collected exceeded 358 million. This result allowed the film to confidently take first place at the box office and displace its rival, despite the fact that both premieres were released almost simultaneously.
“Alice in Wonderland”, based on the famous fairy tale by Lewis Carroll and an audio play with songs by Vladimir Vysotsky, was released for 337 million rubles. Starring Anna Peresild, the film featured many stars and the advertising campaign promised the film’s hit status. But “Gorynych” unexpectedly took the lead and became the audience favorite in the first weekend of autumn.
Film critics note that the success of “Gorynych” is largely due to the charisma of Alexander Petrov, dynamic plot and bright visual effects. Alice in Wonderland, on the other hand, attracted attention with a more nostalgic approach and musical elements, which may have limited its audience.
