The popular sci-fi action video game franchise Gears of wars is finally getting the movie adaptations fans have been waiting for thanks to Netflix! There is a bonus, though! We will also have an animated series for adults! The streaming service also notes that there is “potential for more stories to follow”.
There was a Gears of War film in development for several years with the director F. Scott Frazier (Collide And xXx: return of Xander Cage) at the helm. But nothing ever came of it. Around that time, actors like Dave Bautista and Terry Crews were campaigning to be in the film. Both would make big additions, but none have been chosen at the moment.
As for the directors, as far as we know, Frazier is not involved and no other directors have been announced for the new film project. Video game developer The Coalition has acquired the rights to the series from the original creator Epic Games and they will be involved in the creative process.
Gears of wars follows a team of tough soldiers called Delta Squad who are fighting the Locust Horde, an underground alien race that decimates humanity. The Delta Squad’s main crew consisted of Marcus Fenix, Dominic “Dom” Santiago, Augustus Cole and Damon Baird. In their battles, they use a variety of heavy firearms, rocket launchers and spearmen, which are rifles with chainsaws attached. I’ve always loved it.
As a longtime fan of this video game franchise, I’m both excited and nervous about the idea of Netflix taking care of it. I just saw how they handled the last Resident Evil series, which was a huge disappointment.
