It’s me, Mario! The fantastic week of the Nintendo plumber begins. Next Thursday, October 6, we will finally be able to see the trailer for the animated film from Super Mario Bros. from Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind “Despicable Me”. But first, Universal Pictures delighted us the first poster of the film, with Mario turning his back on us to save his big debut for Thursday (although something tells us it will be quite faithful to the latest video games):
The poster is full of nods to the franchise, with a herd of Toads (including the digger that had its spon-off), an antique shop with items from the saga, such as the Power button or the music box, a bunch of mushrooms and pipes. At the top of the mountain we have Peach’s castle with a very “Mario 64” style and the smartest could find a Yoshi egg.
We still don’t know exactly what the story the film will tell us will be, but we do know the characters we will see thanks to the vocal cast. Chris Pratt voices the protagonist, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Jack Black as Bowser.. The villain will not be alone: Kevin Michael Richardson will be the double of Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco that of Spike. Seth Rogen and Fred Armisen round out the vocal cast as Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong. Charles Martinet, the man who voices Mario in the games, will be involved in a way that has not yet been disclosed.

To see the trailer we will have to wait for Thursday 6 November at 22:05, Spanish time. Nintendo has prepared a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to the film. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” will be released in theaters in March 2023. It will be directed by Aaron Horvath (“Teen Titans Go! The Movie”) and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (“Minions: Rise of Gru”). Nintendo worked side-by-side with Illumination to make the animated film the great cinematic adventure this video game icon deserves (sorry for the underrated ’90s Super Mario Bros.).
