Disney is approaching its 100th anniversary. The company will celebrate the occasion in style with a handful of very special previews, such as “Wish”. But first, to commemorate its 99th anniversary, The Mouse House is about to release “Mundo Extraño”, its next animated film. Its producer, veteran Roy Conli (“The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “Big Hero 6”), traveled to Spain to present the first images in Madrid.

During the event, Conli discussed the synopsis of the film extensively. A normal family embarks on the journey of their life as they enter a lost world. Surrounded by impossible creatures and fascinating landscapes, intrepid and unusual adventurers must find a substitute for a special vegetable that came from the same place and that they cultivated themselves. “Don Hall, the director, wanted to make a film about his children and what we will leave to the new generations in the future”comments Conli in an exclusive interview for eCartelera.

In the images shown by the manufacturer, what is most striking is the visual apparatus that will be characterized by ‘Mundo Extraño’. The film will not skimp on scenes and resources with which to show the fantastic universe they have created. Great care has been taken in dealing with the care that matches the smallest detail, offering a totally immersive experience so that the audience discovers that lost world at the same time as the characters.

Everything in ‘Strange World’ is reminiscent of the great classics of adventure, fantasy and science fiction. To those epic poems that amazed the readers of novels and movie viewers. While its main theme looks forward, the spirit of the film is unmistakably nostalgic. “Don fell in love re-reading Jules Verne, HG Wells, ‘The Lost World’ by Arthur Conan Doyle, ‘In Search of the Enchanted Valley’ …”points out Conli, who ensures that these inspirations “made him want to tell his story of adventurers who find a lost world”.

The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as researcher Clade, the father of the family. Joining him are Dennis Quaid as grandfather Jaeger Clade (his father), Jaboukie Young-White as his son Ethan Clade, Gabrielle Union as his wife Meridian Clade and Lucy Liu as President Callisto Mal. In addition, Legend, a cute and clumsy lame dog with a lot of love for giving and giving, will also participate in the expedition; and Splat, a very playful blue slimy ball. These two characters will add humor to “Strange World” to the point that Conli assures it “will be the favorites of the public”. From what little we’ve been able to see about them, it’s not without reason.

“When we make a film, we want it to be fun, entertaining, adventurous … But we also want people to go and think about it.”comments the producer, who once again underlines the importance of having a central theme. “We live in interesting times and I want to make sure people think about their children”concludes his reflection on inheritance. “It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever worked on and I’ve worked on some really nice ones”he proudly adds a short time later.

There is no room for hate at Disney

One of the problems that have been shaking Disney most recently are the racist attacks on the remake of “The Little Mermaid” and the homophobes against “Year of Light”. Faced with these situations, Conli says the firm’s position is clear. “What we are doing is wonderful. Jennifer Lee, our creative president, wants to tell stories to the world. “To explain, “I’ve seen ‘The Little Mermaid’ and I think it’s silly because it’s fantastic. What’s the problem? I don’t understand.”.

“Strange World” will be premiered in theaters on November 23rd.
