STAR WARS: ANDOR creator Tony Gilroy shares series details and says it gets “bigger and bigger”

I had the opportunity to see the first four episodes of Star Wars: Andor already and I’m mostly impressed with the strong and clever story and character development. This show is different from all the others Star Wars project I’ve seen, and digging! He’s really doing some great things! It is much darker, grittier, and more mature than many of the gods Star Wars projects that came first.

During a recent interview with Total Film, creator of the series and showrunner Tony Gilroy shared some details about the series and talked about the opportunity that was given to him and the creative team, saying:

“The mandate for the show, the brief for it, was really, ‘Let’s try to create new avenues here and try to create a new opportunity. If you think about it, there’s a billion, billions of creatures living in that galaxy, and there are many fascinating stories happening everywhere, why not explore them?

“When Lucasfilm and Disney Plus say they want to do something really, really different, and you keep pushing them and showing them different, and they keep saying yes, it’s pretty exciting.”

It’s nice to know that Lucasfilm and Disney have been open to this type of Star Wars series because it really goes against everything they’ve tried to do with the franchise. The series is set five years before the events of Thief Oneand focuses on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor and his journey to join the rebellion. Speaking of the exploration of Andor in this series, Luna said:

“I’ve had a chance to explore so many layers of the character that a film wouldn’t allow you to do. Here with the long format, we have basically four films. Therefore, there’s a great chance for you to talk about the contradictions that make someone real. , which make a character real and tangible.

“It seems that in Rogue One he is just a lonely man, that he has only a relationship with a droid and that’s it. And now we can tell the story that is closest to mine or yours, where there is a family, there are friends, there are enemies, there are people in your community who expect something from you.

“In Rogue One, he is alone on a mission and nothing will stand between him and the mission. Here he has the ability to be real, to make mistakes and to have relationships like the one he has with [Adria Arjona’s] Bix which is quite crucial and important. We live in his house, we see his mother. It’s a great thing if you like that a character can go back and be so specific and work so much time on it. “

I actually like to see Andor in this different situation, he’s a very different version of the character. Although I didn’t find him the most interesting character of Thief One, I find it interesting in this series. As for what’s to come beyond the four episodes I’ve seen, Gilroy explains that the range of the series will increase, which is exciting!

“Oh my God, we haven’t started yet. We’re going to get bigger and bigger. Why? Because I have 1,400 pages of script to go through and we want to have a really complicated and interconnected story. I don’t think I’ll do it more than once, it’s a ‘one-off opportunity for five years, so we’ll go all in and try to explore every single aspect of the revolution from the ground up – what happens to ordinary people when a life-changing war is coming, when a rebellion is on the way. just at the beginning. We are just getting started. “

Well, I’m passionate about the series and I’m buckled up and ready to take the adventure ride Gilroy wants to take us to!
