Have you ever heard of cheating your followers on social networks? And did you have fun? Well, here’s what ‘Not Okay’, Quinn Shephard’s next film, is about, starring Zoey Deutch alongside Dylan O’Brien and Mia Isaac. In it, Danni is a centennial who works on a website for catchy news and articles. Because he feels no one is paying attention to him, he invents a trip to Paris, posting photos on Instagram that are actually accurate montages made by his home with a chroma key. But everything goes wrong when a series of attacks shakes the French capital. Instead of acknowledging the lie, Danni sells the story to the world that she nearly died.

“This is the life we left them, and it sucks”Deutch tells us – in an interview granted to eCartelera – about the portrait of Generation Z in ‘Not Okay’, “It’s a warning, we don’t despise them”. For O’Brien, in fact, the film is not just about centenarians but is aimed at the whole world. “Every young person will see a lot of himself in her”ensures, “but even boomers should take a look”.

If the film deals with a theme, it is that of authenticity in the days of social networks. “Danni is a liar, a cheater, a cheater. There is a great debate about authenticity”explains the actress, “Being authentic with yourself is very precious”. His colleague, on his part, does not believe that there is a global solution to the problem as there is “personal solutions that we all have to take. We have to find our story and the relationship we want to have with it”.
