Ryan Coogler shares his personal inspiration and casting update on the X-FILES reboot

Director Ryan Coogler talked about his upcoming reboot of the iconic sci-fi series The X-Filesrevealing a heartfelt reason behind why the project means so much to him and teasing fans with some cryptic cast updates.

Created by Chris Carterthe original The X-Files first debuted in 1993, introducing the world to FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, played by David Duchovny AND Gillian Anderson.

The show became a cultural phenomenon, lasting nine seasons before returning for two more, as well as two feature films. The X-Files (1998) e The X-Files: I want to believe it (2008).

Now, Coogler is breathing new life into the series with a new reboot currently in development. While the official plot and casting details remain under wraps, rumors are circulating about it Danielle Deadwyler could take a leading role in the revival.

Speaking with Variety, Coogler shared his motivation for taking on the job The X-Files it came from a very personal place… her connection to her mother.

“Like my relationship with Rocky and my father, The X-Files is one of those things with my mother. My mother means so much to me – she’s here tonight – so this is a big thing for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mother has read some of the things I wrote for that movie. She’s thrilled.”

When asked about the rumors of Deadwyler’s involvement, the director played coy, saying:

“I can neither confirm nor deny.”

The same response came when asked if Duchovny or Anderson would return to reprise their legendary roles as Mulder and Scully.
