A TV series about the Kennedy family will be shot

Netflix and Chernin Entertainment have ordered a drama series about the lives of the influential Kennedy family, Variety writes.

The series, called “The Kennedys,” is based on the book “John F. Kennedy: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917–1956” by Fredrik Logevall. Michael Fassbender will portray Joseph Kennedy Sr., the head of the Kennedy family. Netflix has ordered an eight-episode first season.

News that the series would be renewed comes almost two years after it was learned that the streaming service was working on the project. At the time, sources said Netflix was considering the series as an American version of The Crown, which chronicles the Kennedy family’s rise to the top of American politics over several seasons.

The series’ official blurb reads: “The series explores the personal lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies that shaped the most legendary dynasty in modern history and helped create the world we live in today. Set in the 1930s, the first season chronicles the incredible rise of Joe (Fassbender) and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including their rebellious second son, Jack, as they try to escape the shadow of their handsome older brother.”

Meanwhile, it was learned that Netflix was betting on the continuation of Peaky Blinders and ordered two seasons to be shot simultaneously.
