THE Demon slayer the franchise can’t stop winning. The new anime movie, Demon Hunter: Infinity Castlehas officially become the highest-grossing international film ever in the United States, surpassing an Oscar-winning classic.
According to Global Box Office, after just a month in American theaters, Infinity Castle grossed a staggering $128,637,106 domestically, and is still going strong with tickets continuing to be sold for future screenings.
That number puts him just ahead Ang Lee’S Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonwhich previously held the record with $128,530,421. The martial arts masterpiece also took home the Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2001. Now, more than two decades later, Demon Hunter: Infinity Castle he claimed the crown.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 international hits in the United States are Life is beautiful, Godzilla minus one, Hero, Parasite, Instructions, Pan’s Labyrinth, AmeliaAND Fearless.
But this achievement is just the latest in a long list of broken records Infinity Castle since its debut. After premiering in Japan on July 18 and launching in American theaters on September 12, the film quickly became the highest-grossing anime film of all time, surpassing Demon Hunter: The Mugen Train.
It even managed to beat superhero blockbusters like DC’s Superman and Marvel Fantastic Four: First Steps along the road.
Based on Infinity Castle bow from Demon Hunter: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, the film follows Tanjiro Kamado as he enters the mysterious demonic stronghold known as Infinity Castle, where he faces his most dangerous enemies. The stakes are higher, the animation is breathtaking, and the story marks the beginning of an epic trilogy that will continue Tanjiro’s journey.
With all this success, fans are already campaigning Infinity Castle to obtain important recognitions. After all, he just dethroned an Oscar winner, so maybe see it Demon Hunter: Infinity Castle at next year’s ceremony doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
