Marvel Studios has released the first extended teaser for its upcoming Disney+ series The Wonder Manand it looks like the MCU is taking a fun, meta-deep dive into Hollywood’s obsession with superhero culture.
The series follows Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a struggling actor whose life takes a wild turn when he becomes the star, and perhaps real-life counterpart, of a remake of Wonder Man.
The teaser gives us a quick but intriguing look at Simon’s journey from a child idolizing a low-budget superhero movie to an adult who might actually get a chance to embody the same hero on screen.
In the teaser, Marvel creates a world that feels both familiar and self-aware. This isn’t just another superhero story, it’s about creating one. Fans get a glimpse of Simon’s childlike fascination with superheroes and the bizarre Hollywood machine that churns them out.
There’s also a tongue-in-cheek nod to the industry with a project titled Cash Grab 2, making it clear that the series won’t shy away from poking fun at the more commercial side of the genre.
One of the big surprises of the teaser is the return of Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, the failed actor who stole the show Iron Man 3 AND Shang Chi. This marks the first major Shang-Chi character crossover to appear in the MCU again. His role in the story remains unclear, but he seems poised to mentor or complicate Simon’s chaotic rise.
The Wonder Man seems to be shaping up to be something completely new and unique for Marvel as it explores the sharp, self-referential look at fame, fandom, and the thin line between fiction and reality.
With its comedic tone, behind-the-scenes setting, and a magnetic lead actor like Abdul-Mateen, this could be one of the most refreshing entries in the MCU’s Disney+ lineup.
