Magnolia Pictures triggered the first complete trailer for The son of the carpenterA crazy reimagination of the horror of Jesus’ childhood, and seems absolutely wild. The film is the protagonist Nicolas Cage as a carpenter, fka twigs like Mary, e Noah jpe As a young Jesus, with a story that mixes faith, fear and supernatural terror.
The film is written and directed by Lotfy NathanDrawing inspiration from Thomas’ apocryphal childhood. The trailer makes fun of a chilling mixture of biblical themes and psychological horror, preparing the foundations for something that the public has never seen before.
The story follows a family that hides in Egypt Roman. Their son, simply called “The Boy”, begins to rebel against his guardian, the carpenter, after meeting a mysterious child.
This meeting sparkles doubts, awakens supernatural powers and sets in motion a destiny that attracts the family in a terrifying conflict with both divine and earthly forces.
Magnolia’s synopsis describes it in this way: “A remote village in the Egypt of the Roman era explodes in the spiritual war when a carpenter, his wife and their son are targeted by supernatural forces in the son of the carpenter. Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (Joseph (JosephNicolas Cage), Mary (FKA twigs) and their teenage son Jesus (Noah jpe) have lived threatened for years, clinging to their faith and traditions.
“But a stop in a small settlement unleashes the growth chaos when a mysterious stranger (Isla Johnston) tries to attract the young Jesus to abandon the rules of his father.
“Violent and unnatural events inexplicably follow Jesus and begins to experiment with the nightmare visions of the future. Finally, he learns the fearsome truth about his new playmate, as well as the real name of the child: Satan.
“The writer and director Lotfy Nathan, drawing from his Coptic Christian background, offers a supernatural thriller of the gender meticulously made, full of unhappy images of the divine and demonic in war.”
Magnolia Pictures Co-Ceos Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley praised Nathan’s vision, saying: “With the son of the carpenter, Lotfy Nathan has delivered a genre show that challenges expectations at every round”.
This is clearly a film designed to arouse a conversation and a contrary. It is not the first time that an unconventional version of the Bible makes the waves.
