Before Steven Spielberg’S Jaw Changed successful history and sent millions of courses from the ocean, the study was already playing how to sell terror.
While we celebrate the 50th anniversary of JawI rarely fascinated this concept of original poster, while I was in Wondercon at the beginning of this year.
It reveals a very different approach to the film market, with a slogan that reads “a man against a giant killer shark and a city that will not face the truth”. It is an initial shot that approached the novel by Peter Benchley who at the thriller led by Ensemble we know today.
In particular, none of the now iconic leads is listed and Benchley is the only accredited screenwriter, which is a strong suggestion that this poster has probably been mounted during pre-production.
This alternative poster for jaws seems raw, almost like a grinding thriller. While this poster has never been released, it offers a fascinating look at how drastically the tone of a film can go from conception to completion.
