Friday 13: Jason Voorhees gets an official redesign for new films, shows and games

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Friday 13th Franchise, Horror Inc. revealed a first glance at the redesigned Slasher icon and the update affects a careful balance between the past and the future.

The revelation came through Adweek, together with some expected information of what is the next for the killer that brandishes the Machete through films, television and games.

Rob Barsamian, president of Horror, Inc. said:

“We commit ourselves to maintaining Jason’s original essence, while continuing to move towards the future with a defined aspect that brings Jason to his next chapter.”

That “next chapter” includes a unified brand initiative called Jason UniverseAn expansive plan that aims to resurrect the franchise in multiple formats. Driving the accusation is Crystal LakeA series of prequels that will debut on Peacock. But fans can also expect new films, engaging experiences and video games on the horizon.

Legend fx Greg Nicotero (Deaths walking) was introduced to help reinvent Jason’s look, which includes the classic hockey and Machete mask is firmly in hand, and while Jason’s setting is slightly leaned, it is still the silent stalker that has persecuted the Camp Crystal Lake for decades.

Sheri Conn, Chief Marketing Officer of Horror, Inc. said in a note:

“We are listening to the fans and actively develop a list under the banner of the Jason universe that crosses new films, games, engaging experiences, collectible objects and more.

“Our film franchise is one of the most lasting horror properties in cinematographic history and we are actively reinventing what the next chapter – and the Slasher genre in general can become”.

The prequel series will explore the first days of Camp Crystal Lake, with Linda Cardellini Play Pamela Voorhees. It remains to be seen if we see the tragic “death” of Young Jason or a complete slasher at the end of the season, but the bases are clearly placed to be back in force.
