Alex Honnoldthe fearless climber who stunned the world in the Oscar-winning documentary Free Onlyshe’s found her next challenge, and it’s much closer to home.
The legendary adventurer will host a new travel and exploration series called Hang out with Alex Honnold for a bitpremiering in 2026 on the Outside Network.
This five-episode series will take Honnold through the wild and often overlooked landscapes of Nevada, his home state. Traveling in his van, he’ll explore hidden gems, from remote desert cliffs to quirky roadside attractions that capture the offbeat charm of the Silver State.
According to the official description, the show “combines outdoor exploration, culture, and the delightfully strange roadside attractions that dot Nevada’s highways” and offers “a timely perspective on how unplugging from the daily grind and venturing into unknown terrain — like stargazing among 4,500 visible stars in Great Basin National Park or mining turquoise for jewelry in central Nevada — can alter our vision of the world and of ourselves”.
Developed in collaboration with Travel Nevada, the series is produced by David Klimek AND Jeff Moorewith JJ Kelley direct.
For Honnold, this project is personal. “Being involved in this series is amazing to me,” he said in a statement to Variety. “My love of adventure matches the spirit of Nevada. Red Rock has been a big part of my life, but Nevada continues to surprise me with how much there is to see and do. I’m excited to explore the hidden corners of this state and share what makes it so special.”
Honnold has always been about pushing boundaries. His free solo ascent of the 3,000-foot “Freerider” route of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, as recounted in Only free, it remains one of the greatest feats in climbing history.
And it’s not slowing down. Just last week, it was revealed that his next daring feat will be to scale Taiwan’s 1,667-foot-tall Taipei 101 skyscraper for a Netflix live event premiering in early 2026.
Raffaele VillanuevaCEO of Travel Nevada, he couldn’t think of a better ambassador to showcase the state. “The Travel Nevada brand mantra is ‘Get a Little Out There,’ and what better person than Alex Honnold to demonstrate how to do it?
“For many years, Alex has been an amazing unofficial brand ambassador for Nevada, showcasing the incredible climbing available in his home state. We are thrilled to partner with him and Outside to help share the spirit of Nevada and the hidden places in our state that embody it.”
Sam Moultonvice president of creative strategy and solutions at Outside, he added. “From cowboy poets and clown hotels to Basque food and turquoise mines, Nevada’s unique cultural experiences are as unexpected as they are fantastic.
“The state is also much wilder than you think, home to remote climbing crags, world-class mountain biking and everything else that makes it ideal for the Outside network. And Alex is the perfect host to show us the state through his eyes, as curious as he is ready for any adventure.”
Between his deadly climbs and his genuine love of the outdoors, Honnold is the perfect guide to remind us that adventure doesn’t always mean going to the ends of the earth—it might just be waiting for you in your own backyard.
Hang out with Alex Honnold for a bit will premiere on Outside in 2026.
