Vincent d’Onofrio He made a name for himself by trampling the Marvel universe like Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, a bad and complex villain that is equally terrifying when he whispers as when he is destroying things. But if D’Onofrio has ever decided to cross the lines of the comics and join the DCU, he has already played a role in mind … Swamp Thing.
It all started with an exchange on X. A fan asked D’Onofrio if there was any character outside Kingpin that he would have liked to play. His answer … “Swamp Thing”.
D’Onofrio’s love for the character is deep and was vocal before, saying in 2024:
“In these days, I don’t know why … I don’t do it [know] If you guys are in DC like me. Obviously I also like wonder because this is my job. My comics when I was a child [were] Captain America, Spider-Man, Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing. I’d really like to play Swamp Thing. “
If you are familiar with D’Onofrio’s performances, you know that it is not the type to slightly throw his name in the ring slightly, and it is really not so difficult to imagine it in the role.
Swamp Thing It is already under development at the DC Studios as part of their chapter “Gods and Monsters”, with Logan AND Indiana Jones and the dial of fate director James Mangold attached. The film is still shocked in mystery, but Mangold offered some intuitions, saying:
“Even if I am sure that DC’s” thing “of Swamp Thing displays as a franchise, I would see it as a very simple, clean and Gothic horror film about this man/monster. “
Mangold said he had “played for years with the idea of making a kind of Frankenstein films” and when James Gunn and Peter Safran took the reins in Washington, “he made a friendly call” to launch himself.
“I’m just doing my things with this, just a standalone.”
That Gothic horror atmosphere sounds as if it combines incredibly well with the presence on the intense and meditobond screen of d’Onofrio. Whether they go in the middle of CGI, motion captures or adapt to the practical monsters, it could absolutely bring the role.
The man is 6’4 “, he can move his voice to anything, from the Shakespearean thunder, to the threat that moves the bone, and knows how to bring gravitas to roles that falter between humanity and monstrosity.
What do you think of Abiout by Vincent D’Onoforio as Swamp Thing?
