Matt Damon he was the first actor to be chosen to direct Christopher Nolanis Universal’s next film, which Nolan is writing, directing and producing.
The film was unknown at the time it was announced, but last month we found out that the movie he’s making is The Odysseybased on Homer’s Greek epic poem which recounts the challenging journey of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he strives to return home after the Trojan War.
Since Damon was the first actor to be locked up and announced, it was assumed that he would play the lead role in the film, but it seems that his co-star Tom Holland will actually take on that starring role.
Deadline reports that Holland will take on the lead role, and he and Damon will star in the film together Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson AND Charlize Theron.
Although the characters in the film have not been named, it can be assumed that Holland will play a younger version of Odysseus.
We’ll have to wait and see what Nolan’s vision turns out to be The Odyssey will take shape, but as a fan of his other films, I have faith that in the end we will have a truly great film. The Odyssey is expected to be released in theaters on July 17, 2026.
