With the first season of Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew concluded, fans are excited about the show’s future. Creators Jon Watts AND Christopher Ford recently talked about the finale’s big moments and hinted at where the series might go next. Here’s what they had to say.
The last final shot of the series with Jude LawJod looking out of At Attin’s window has sparked discussion among fans. I liked this character’s arc and how it ended.
Speaking about this final scene with Jod, Ford said that, even after countless viewings during post-production, this scene hit him differently when he watched it with his family.
Ford told Entertainment Weekly: “I watched this episode 10,000 times in editing and every step of post-production, but watching it last night with my family, that was the part that made me feel something I never had. tried before.” heard this before for some reason. Just him alone now and reflecting his thoughts, ruminating. This affected me like it had never happened before.”
Watts added: “It’s one of those performances where it’s open and real enough that you find yourself projecting a lot of yourself into its expression. I was trolling Reddit while you were watching the series with your family.
“Different people read different things. Some people said, “Oh, he’s happy to finally have to abandon this gimmick.” Or it’s like, ‘No, he’s upset because he’s looking at this perfect family panorama and he’s all alone.’ People have seen every different variety.
One of the lingering mysteries is Jod’s Jedi backstory and who exactly he trained with, which the show intentionally left open-ended.
Ford explained: “In our heads there is the potential to go deeper. That part of the story is something that could be explored in the future.
“So when you have something that’s kind of a work in progress like this, you leave it open enough to work on and improve.”
Watts chimed in, “Yeah, not this season. But what’s great about it Star Wars it’s that you start talking about someone’s past and there’s already a story and a fascination surrounding it.
“So you start to get excited, ‘Oh, well, where would you place this person if it happened X years ago in this larger galactic timeline?’
“It’s such a rich world that you can have so much variation and variety of characters and backstories, and it’s just like limitless potential. It’s a lot of fun.”
The question on all fans’ minds right now is: will there be a second season? While nothing is official yet, Watts and Ford are optimistic.
Watts said: “We definitely have some ideas in mind. We’re waiting to find out what other people think, but we always had an idea of where it could go even before we made the first season. So, there’s a lot of potential out there and I hope everyone sees it.”
The creators also faced the challenge of the aging cast. Watts explained: “We wouldn’t pretend that babies were only six months older if we earned more.
“It’s fun to think about them as they grow up, where they fit into the galaxy, and how their world would be changed by the events that happened in the first season.”
Ford added: “And, in interconnected terms, what impact would the events of the other shows have on At Attin. It doesn’t have to be a cameo, because if historical events occur in the galaxy, they will affect everyone.
Watts followed up with the question: “Yes, their secluded planet is now officially part of the larger galaxy. So what would be the consequences of this?
As showrunners and fans wait to see if Disney and Lucasfilm will move forward with season two, one thing is clear: Skeleton crew has only just begun to scratch the surface of its potential.
