James Cameron says AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH will make “bold choices” that could shock audiences

James Cameron doesn’t seem like he’s afraid to shake things up with the Avatars franchising. In a recent interview with Empire, the director anticipated that the third installment of the successful series, Avatar: Fire and Ashmay not be in line with what fans expect.

Cameron explained that this time the creative team is making big changes with the story. He told Empire: “We’re just starting to remake it and shoot it and shoot it.

He added: “It’s a complicated thing. We could get high on our own supply here, and everyone watching will be like, ‘Fuck, that’s not what I signed up for.’ But if you don’t make bold choices, you’re wasting everyone’s time and money.”

Cameron wasn’t about to play it safe when he made this movie. He explained, “That alone isn’t enough to create success, but it’s necessary. You have to break the mold every damn time.”

Cameron also provided an update on production, which is moving faster than expected. Comparing it with Avatar: The Way of Watershared:

“We doubled the number of shots finished at this stage of the game compared to the second film [and] the films have more or less the same length. So that puts us well ahead of the curve, which, frankly, I’ve never experienced before.”

Avatar: Fire and Ash will introduce audiences to the Ash People, also known as the Mangkwan Clan, led by Oona ChaplinIt’s Varang. Described as a darker and more antagonistic group, this new clan will bring a new dynamic to the franchise.

Cameron previously offered more insight into Varang, saying: “Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through incredible hardship. She is hardened by it.

“He continues joking: “He will do anything for them, even things we would consider evil. One thing we wanted to do in this film was not be simplistic black and white.”

Speaking previously about the film, Cameron said the Ash People are a reflection of the worst side of N’avi, suggesting he drew inspiration from reality when he noted: “We have a lot of anger and a lot of rage in the film.” world we live in now.”

He also explains that the new N’avi tribe will be nomadic and travel by air; however, the Ash People “were destroyed by volcanic eruptions, so they resent nature and everything the forest Na’vi preach.”

Cameron previously said: “It’s so rewarding to have that love for the world of Pandora and these characters that my team has worked on for over 18 years.

“I can’t wait to show you what we’re working on Avatara3. Every day, when I see new shots, it’s like Christmas morning. The characters are so alive and everything seems so real.

“As you would expect, it’s a crazy adventure but the emotional stakes are also very high, more than ever. We’re entering really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.

“There are new characters, especially one we think you’ll love or love to hate. You’ll see more of the planet Pandora than you’ve ever seen before.

The director also spoke about the film saying, “It’s simply a continuation of the epic. You’ll see new environments, new characters. The characters that you know and love will be challenged even more and go through some trials and tribulations. I think it’s going to be a bigger ride. harder than the A2, in a positive sense.”

Cameron also offered some insights on the matter Avatara3 and who the film will focus on, saying, “Lo’ak really emerged as a character that people connected with. So I could find ways to… he’s already the narrator. I’m giving something away here, but that’s okay.

“I think it might be intriguing for people to think about what’s going to happen. Jake was our voice-over narrator for the first and second films, and we have a different narrator for each of the subsequent films. We see it through the eyes of a different character. The third film is seen through Lo’ak’s eyes.”

Cameron also teased the fire element of the third film and revealed that two new cultures would be introduced, saying: “Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there is a culture that specifically revolves around that concept. That’s probably saying too much as we speak.”

It was also recently teased that the film will be “bigger than you can imagine.”

Movie stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stefano LangCliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine ClementAND Kate Winslet.

Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in theaters on December 25, 2025.
