Director Matt Reeves shared another update on his upcoming DC movie Batman Part II. Speaking to Deadline during the Golden Globes, Reeves confirmed that production on the highly anticipated sequel will begin this year.
While he didn’t share a specific timeline, Reeves expressed his excitement, saying, “I can tell you that we’re shooting this year and we’re excited about it.”
While details about the film’s plot remain under wraps, Reeves hinted at the direction the sequel will take, saying, “What excites me is that I feel like we’re doing something that absolutely continues where the story started, but it’s something that I hope people are really surprised.
The project was first announced in April 2022, and has faced delays in that time, including a pushed back release date now set for October 2027. There’s also the fact that there’s no full script for the film yet.
Co-Head of DC Studios James Gunn spoke about the delays, comparing them to the gaps between major sequels in the franchise, like his own Guardians of the Galaxy movie. If the current release date is valid, Batman Part II will debut more than five years after the original film.
Despite the setbacks, Reeves’ confirmation of a 2024 production is great to hear. I also want to say that we can expect more updates soon, especially with Reeves hinting at “new people involved”, likely referring to new casting additions.
