Jennifer Love Hewitt has officially ended her deal to reprise her role as Julie James in the new one I know what you did last summer horror film at Sony Pictures.
He will join the previously announced cast of Freddie Prinze Jr., Chase the Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicola Aleksandr Chávez, Austin Nichols AND Gabriel.
Kaytin Robinson he’s directing the sequel, from a script he collaborated on Sam Lansky based on a draft of Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing.
The film is described as a legacy sequel, and McKendrick previously spoke about the project, saying he will update it, but also deliver the tried-and-true formula of “interesting people doing questionable things.”
Hewitt has previously spoken about the character he plays in the franchise, saying it holds a special place in his heart because “it was one of the first great things I ever manifested.”
“He is a very special person to me because that film changed my career. It changed my self-confidence. Being able to know that I could see things before they happened and make them happen, and put that out into the universe, and be rewarded that way – that’s been a beautiful lesson for me in my life. It has helped me tremendously in my almost 36 years in business.”
Hewitt also shared her excitement for the upcoming sequel, saying, “I will say it’s really an honor, at 45, just to be invited back. Be thought of that way, not just to move on to the newer, better, younger versions, but [to be offered] to come back and play that part is really cool.
When talking about why it took her so long to sign, she said, “A lot of the reason we took a minute is that I don’t want to just say, ‘Oh, there’s the ghost of the years.’ 90′”. passed for five seconds in the film.”
“I want her to come back, to be there for a reason, to play a real role and to show the audience who she has become 27 years later. I think the scariest thing about the movie will probably be that people will see me at 45, since they last saw me at 21.”
Hewitt currently co-stars on the Fox show 9-1-1 and we will soon see him as the protagonist, director and executive producer of the Lifetime film The holiday junkie.
