A few years ago, after it was announced James Gunn would lead the charge at DC Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Battista he was very vocal about working with Gunn again, saying he wanted to play Bane.
The actor has been very enthusiastic about playing Bane in a DC movie for years, and even pitched the idea of playing Bane to Warner Bros. and DC:
He said, “Oh, he was going to be Bane all day. I made no secret of this. I want to play Bane so badly that I went to Warner Bros., had a date with them, had a date with DC, walked in the door and said, “I want to play Bane.”
“I’m not joking. They were kind of like ‘Woah, we’re not even casting Bane.’ I was like, ‘I don’t care, I’ll play him.'”
Well, apparently things have changed. During a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn said he didn’t know “if Dave [Bautista] he wants to be Bane more” in his new DC universe. But she still wants to work with him.
He said: “I don’t know if Dave wants to be Bane anymore, he wanted to be Bane. I think he would much rather be a character other than Bane right now, I think that’s probably the case.
“Of course, I love Dave and want to work with him again, but I’m not sure he wants to be Bane anymore.”
As I’m sure you’ve seen, Bautista has lost a lot of weight and is looking to take on different types of movie roles.
He explained: “I feel dissatisfied as an actor. I have goals on certain spaces. I want to be an actor from A to Z. I want to be in every genre.
“There are still some I haven’t been able to get into, some boxes I haven’t checked. But I didn’t even get that deep, dramatic, moving role. [That’s what I’m] looking, so I feel very dissatisfied.
I’m sure Bautista and Gunn will team up again one day for another project, we’ll just have to wait and see what it will be.
