Michael Mann he worked Heat 2 for a long time and we heard that it will be the next film he makes. The director recently offered a brief update on the project and is nearing the end of his script.
While the director didn’t go into details about the production of the sequel to the 1995 thriller Heat, he said that the script “will have to be finished very soon” and that he would do so “on the plane ride back to Los Angeles.” Angeles.”
Mann also said that after making Heat 2, he will move forward with his dream project about the 1968 Battle of Hué, which is one of the bloodiest chapters of the Vietnam War.
The sequel follows the story of when South Vietnamese forces and US troops retook the city of Hué during a month of brutal urban fighting.
Speaking about the original Heat film and its success and longevity, Mann said: “It’s all in the writing. It’s a very, very contrived, very complex script.
“It shouldn’t affect you in such a complex way. It should influence you by taking you on this ride. But the structure has buried a feud within it… you are 100% invested in the Neil McCauley/Robert De Niro escape.
“You are 100% invested in Al Pacino [Vincent Hanna] arresting Neil McCauley at the same time. This contradiction helps sustain memory.”
“But we knew, to be honest, we knew the movie we were making, as I say, but also Bob, Al, Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, we knew what it was about, and then the movie comes out, and it has some impact. .. then it sticks in the memory, and was in the top 10 or 20 films in the Warner Brothers catalog for years.”
Heat 2 will tell the story of what led up to the events of the first film, set in 1989, and what happened after, set in 2002.
It covers “the formative years of homicide detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) and elite criminals Neil McCauley (De Niro), Chris Shiherlis (Kilmer) and Nate (Jon Voight), and features the same extraordinary ambition, scope, rich characterizations and attention to detail as the epic.”
This new story “leads into the events of the film and then goes beyond, introducing new characters on both sides of the law, new high-level heists and breathtaking cinematic action sequences.
“Racing from the streets of Los Angeles to the inner sanctum of rival Taiwanese crime syndicates in Paraguay to a massive drug cartel money laundering operation just across the border in Mexico, Heat 2 highlights the dangerous workings of international criminal organizations and of the agents who prosecute them. as it provides a heartfelt portrait of the men and women who inhabit both worlds.
“Operatic in scope, Heat 2 is gripping, moving and tragic: a masterpiece of crime fiction from one of American cinema’s most innovative and influential directors.”
It is explained that the book jumps between two time periods, “the first follows Chris Shiherlis as he tries to evade the LAPD and Detective Vincent Hanna after the bank robbery gone wrong and moves into new territory in the area of three borders and in Southeast Asia.
“The second storyline takes readers back to Chicago in 1988, when McCauley, Shiherlis and their top-tier team are racking up scores on the West Coast, the U.S.-Mexico border and Chicago.
“At the same time, Hanna is cutting her teeth as a rising star in the Chicago Police Department, chasing an ultraviolent gang of home invaders. The consequences of McCauley’s scores and Hanna’s pursuit cause unexpected repercussions in a parallel narrative.
It will be interesting to see how this film takes shape once casting and production begins.
