Marvel’s next ensemble film Lightning* has been shrouded in mystery. We know who will be in the film and that they’re collaborating, but we also know there’s a lot the studio isn’t telling us.
This includes where the story will take us and why there is an asterisk in the title. But we have a few other details that have been revealed to ponder.
CBM reports that industry scooper Daniel Richtman has shared some new insights into the film, including the plot of Antonia Dreykov, aka Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
She will suffer from memory problems when we first find her; her father damaged her mind, and although it has since been rebuilt, she needs reminders. Ava Starr helps her keep track of what’s going on and they develop a close friendship as teammates.
With regard to By Laurence Fishburne Bill Foster, who we learned has cancer, while Fishburne lent his voice to the Marvel Animation character What if…?it is reportedly only mentioned in Lightning* unless a cameo was added recently.
Richtman adds that Rachel WeiszMelina Vostokoff isn’t mentioned at all, a surprise when she’s such a big part of both Red Guardian and Yelena Belova’s lives. Things can always change during filming, of course, but this gives a better idea of what to expect from at least some character dynamics.
As for John Walker, former Captain America and current US agent (Wyatt Russell), his wife reportedly left him after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This is unlikely to do much for the super soldier’s already fragile mental state.
During a recent interview, actor Ghost Hannah John-Kamen revealed more about Ant-Man and the Wasp the status quo of the villain Lightning*joking: “The last time you saw her, she was volcanic. She was shaking to death and in pain. I would describe her as a raw nerve.
“He was going through this battle. You found her in this constant survival mechanism while now she’s in control of it. There’s calm in this, there’s resolve, and there’s a powerful breath and rhythm in this. So yes, you will see a different ghost.”
Cast members confirmed for Lightning* include Florence Pugh in the role of Elena Boleva, Sebastiano Stan as Bucky Barnes, Davide Porto in the role of the Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as a US agent, Hannah John-Kamen in the role of Ghost, Olga Kurylenko in the role of Taskmaster, Julia Louis-Dreyfus like Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Lewis Pullman like The Sentinel, and Geraldine Viswanathan in an undisclosed role now believed to be Songbird.
Lightning* it is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on May 5, 2025.
