BLACK PHONE 2 begins production with director Scott Derrickson

Director Scott Derrickson began production on The black phone 2what he will see Ethan Hawke returns as The Grabber. The director revealed the update on social media.

It’s also in the cast Mason Thames (How to train your dragon, Coming soon), Madeleine McGraw (Toy story 4, Secrets of Sulfur Springs), Jeremy Davis (Justified), AND Miguel Mora (The black phone). Demián Bichir (The nun) also joined the cast.

The film’s screenplay comes from Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill and on which the first film was based Joe Hill tale.

The first film centers on a shy but intelligent 13-year-old boy named Finney who is kidnapped by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use.

When an unplugged telephone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are determined to make sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Speaking about the idea for a sequel, Hill said: “There have been some really, really interesting conversations about a sequel. And the thing is, as soon as I saw the mask, which was designed by Tom Savini and Jason Baker, like as soon as I saw the mask I thought, “If this movie is a success, there will be a sequel,” because the mask is so iconic.

“It’s like Freddy Krueger’s glove, it’s like Michael Myers’ mask, it’s this thing where it’s images, iconic images, that haunt people’s sleep.

“And look, in horror, guys like Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, Frankenstein and Dracula, none of these guys stay buried. Everyone comes out of the grave for a sequel and then a threequel.”

He continued: “There’s been talk about how to make a sequel that doesn’t suck. How to make a sequel that doesn’t detract from the previous film, that’s still scary, that’s still intense, that still feels organic.

“And those conversations were pretty good. But if I had to provide some details, Scott and [writer C. Robert] In the movie Cargill locked me in the basement and that was it.

«And the phone doesn’t work. As you know, the phone doesn’t work. I can’t call anyone to come out. So I would refuse to offer any real, granular details about the possible sequel.”

Derrickson also spoke about a sequel in a past interview, saying, “Joe Hill approached me with a wonderful idea for a sequel to Black Phone, and if this movie does well, I’ll do it.

“He has a great idea, I really liked it. Joe is very protective and personal about his material, but he came to me with the idea and I thought, “This is how you do a sequel to Black Phone.” This is great.'”

Universal and Blumhouse will release it The black phone 2 in theaters October 17, 2025.
