Co-CEO and director of DC Studios James Gunn that actor revealed Benjamin Byron Davis providing the voice of Batman villain Rupert Thorne in the DCU animated series Commando of creatures.
We got our first look at Thorne in the latest trailer released for the DC animated series, written by Gunn.
Rupert Thorne is a major crime boss of Gotham City in the comics, and is known for his deep ties to organized crime and his ambition to control the city’s underworld.
He is a ruthless and manipulative figure, who also has a political streak, often using his wealth and influence to influence public opinion and corrupt officials, including police and politicians, to further his criminal enterprises.
He constantly attempts to undermine Batman’s efforts to clean up Gotham. Thorne’s influence is so vast that he even rivals Gotham’s other major villains, though he tends to rely more on cunning and power plays than the theatrics common to Batman’s rogues’ gallery.
I’ve known him mostly since he passed Batman: The Animated Series.
The character update came via a screenshot Davis shared on Instagram, in which Gunn addressed Davis as Rupert Thorne in response to his comment.
Davis wrote in the post, “Well, the cat’s out of the bag… Excited to share that I’ll be bringing Rupert Thorne into the DCU alongside the absolutely amazing ensemble that James Gunn put together for ‘Creature Commandos’!”
As with all the characters of Commando of creatures series, there’s a possibility that Thorne will also appear in a live-action film at some point.
The series “tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they are your last, worst option.”
Commando of creatures will premiere on Max on December 5, 2024.
