In 2011, the series Smallville concluded its eleventh season and fans finally got to see its star Tom Welling taking on the role of the official Man of Steel after years of rigorously telling Clark Kent’s story.
The final shot of the series finale saw Clark open his shirt to reveal the iconic crest, and fans were thrilled with the long-awaited scene.
The CWs Crisis on Infinite Earths the crossover featured Welling reprising his role as a powerless Superman, meaning the actor didn’t have the opportunity to suit up at the time. And since then, both Welling and actor Lex Luthor Michael Rosenbaum they expressed their desire to continue Smallvillewith an animated revival. But that wouldn’t even see Welling return to donning the suit and cape.
While Welling hasn’t seemed very eager to make it happen in the past, he has a reason why he’d like to suit up once again.
The actor recently sat down with ComicBookMovie to talk about his upcoming film role Mafia warsand was asked if he would change his stance on donning the Superman costume if the opportunity arose.
He responded by saying, “You know, I think now, because of the two boys I have with my lovely wife… we have a lot of costumes at home.
“It all started with the first Halloween and now we have, I don’t know, 40 or 50 costumes. The only costume we don’t have is the Superman costume. I asked my son why and he said, “Because he was taken,” and I said, “By who?” ‘From [you].’
“He was like, ‘Okay, I think I’m open to the idea now.’ So if you know anyone, I think it would be awesome. I think it would be fun to be a part of it.”
I don’t know if there will be another opportunity for this to happen, but I think it’s very nice and sweet of him to want to make this happen for his kids. For their sake, he should at least release it on Halloween!
What do you think? Would you like to see Tom Welling return to the role of Superman?
