Dark Sky Films has released a new trailer celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre directed by Tobe Hooper.
The film was digitally restored in 2014 for its 40th anniversary, and for its big 50th, TTCM will be re-released theatrically in October of this year.
I’ve never seen the movie on the big screen. The first time I saw it was on a VHS tape when I was in junior. high and the movie disturbed the hell out of me! I had terrible nightmares after watching this movie!
The description reads: “50 years ago, five young men on a weekend in rural Texas fell prey to a butcher with a mask made of human skin and his cannibalistic family and horror cinema would never be the same.
“Violent, provocative and startlingly realistic, director Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre terrified audiences in a way never thought possible when it was unleashed on a politically and socially tumultuous America in 1974.”
“Facing a storm of controversy, censorship and protest during its troubled release, this horror masterpiece has stood the test of time to become a landmark film and cultural touchstone.”
This is really crazy, did you know that Hooper limited the amount of blood on screen because he wanted to ensure a PG rating, but the MPAA still rated it R.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is screened at the Sitges Film Festival. Dark Sky will also re-release this 4K version in theaters on October 1, 2024 this fall. For more information and tickets, visit their official website.
