Zack Snyder on his bloody, graphic TWILIGHT OF THE GODS says he was waiting for Netflix to tell him to stop

Zack Snyderthe next epic fantasy animated series about Norse mythology Twilight of the Gods It has received good reviews so far, which is a good thing.

This series tells a story of revenge and in telling it, Snyder and his team have not spared themselves on blood and violence. They have made this a hardcore R-rated animated project and during an interview with GamesRadar+, the director talked about it.

Snyder said, “From the very beginning, when they asked me if I would like to do an animated series, I said, ‘Well, I’ll do it if it’s an adult animation.'”

“Because, for me, this is a new frontier, especially in America, this idea of animation that is not for children, an animated series for adults. And so I thought, in this way, if we could do it, it would be something that I haven’t seen much.”

He continued: “It’s funny, because, also, we just had Blue-eyed Samuraiwhich is also a bit of a crazy tone, but really fun. [It was] super fun to do, and the artists are all eager to do something grown-up, something adult, so it was fun. Really, for me, it’s just kind of my natural aesthetic, and it’s just easier.”

Executive producer Wesley Coller added: “With the scope of mythology, themes and story that [Snyder] he meant, he leaned on that of course, again, with [his] aesthetics. And so I think having the opportunity to explore this story in this world, in a mature space, was an obvious choice.”

Snyder chimed in, saying, “And frankly, Norse mythology is kind of an R-rated affair, to be 100 percent honest. It’s pretty intense.”

When asked if Netflix had given him any guidelines about what was acceptable and what wasn’t, he said, “No, not really. I was waiting for them to tell me to stop, but they never did. So, that’s great.

“It’s the kind of thing that’s good for everyone. I’m trying to think, was there anything they said was too much? I don’t think so. I really don’t think so. Nothing comes to mind offhand.

“I was looking for someone to tell me it was too much. I was looking for someone to say, ‘Enough, enough!’ But no one did. So I thought, ‘OK, I think this is cool.'”

The synopsis reads: “In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds, and great despair, LEIF, a mortal king, is saved on the battlefield by SIGRID, an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love.

“On their wedding night, SIGRID and LEIF survive THOR’s wrath of terror, which drives them – and a band of crusaders – to embark on a ruthless, against-all-odds mission of vengeance.

“This heroic tale of love, loss, and revenge is a journey into Hell and beyond…through fantastic lands, fierce and bloody battlefields, and wars fought against gods and demons.”

Speaking about the series’ story, Snyder said: “It’s basically this: There’s a king and his queen in a small Viking village, and they want to get married. An event happens to them at their wedding that sends Sigrid, who is the bride-to-be, who is the daughter of giants, on a crazy quest for revenge.

“He recruits a cast of characters, a seer, a dwarf, and they come together to form a band that has this mission: to find a god and fight him. It’s a mission, it’s a story of revenge.

“Sigrid is a beautiful character, very Scandinavian, cold but passionate, who I really enjoyed working with because she is just fantastic. Sylvia Hoeks gives her voice.”

Snyder also said the show will have “a lot of sex” […] because it’s fun” and that the first season will consist of eight episodes.
