Directed by Erasmus Brosda and written by Gavin Hight (1978)promises fans an enticing mix of a gripping storyline and cutting-edge animation.

The series is a collaboration between Netflix Anime and SAFEHOUSE, Inc. and breathes new life into the Gundam universe, giving fans a vibrant rebirth of this iconic mecha anime franchise.

With over 50 anime series, films, OVAs, manga, and light novels under its belt, Gundam has played a pivotal role in shaping the mecha anime genre. The partnership with Netflix revisits the origins of Gundam, weaving a compelling narrative set during the One Year War, a pivotal period in the franchise’s timeline.

The series is set in the year 0079 of the Universal Century, “the Principality of Zeon declares independence from the Earth Federation, throwing the two nations into war. Thanks to a revolutionary new weapon known as the Mobile Suit, the Zeon Force initially gains the upper hand.

“However, they did not have the power to take control of the entire Earth, bringing the war to a stalemate. After 11 months of war, Earth Federation forces manage to seize a Zeon-controlled base located in Eastern Europe.

“Among the mixed battalion headed to retake this base are Sorari and the Red Wolves Division, a platoon of Mobile Suits fresh from space.”

The One Year War represents a solid entry point for audiences familiar with the Gundam universe, while also hinting at possible future collaborations between Netflix and Gundam should the series prove successful among fans.

The Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance animated series will be available to stream on Netflix worldwide starting October 17, 2024.
